Tip at a Glance: High screen time can make you feel more alone than ever. So one of the best ways to kick the bad habit is to do it with friends. Get an accountability buddy to help motivate you to stick to your screen time goals!

Most of our Tuesday Tips have been about strategies you can implement by yourself to reduce your screen time. But phone addiction can be super isolating - that’s why tackling the problem alone sometimes just isn’t enough.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) you’re not alone. The struggle is real. For EVERYONE!

So I have an innovative solution for you - get an accountability buddy!

The idea is simple: team up with a friend and keep each other in check. It's a concept that has worked wonders in fitness, and now it's time to apply it to screen time too.

This is EXACTLY why we created the Groups feature on Present. Create a group with your accountability buddy on the app so you can see each other’s Present Score every day. Make a fun bet with your buddy (not recommending gambling… bragging rights is okay!) and at the end of the week, the one with the highest Present Score wins.

Feel free to check in with each other throughout the week for extra motivation. When I’m beating my brother (and Present co-founder) in our group, I always like to gloat and make it known that I’m more Present than him.

But if you’re not the competitive type, that’s okay too! You and your buddy can set a goal for the end of the week and motivate each other to stick with it.

Why does having an accountability buddy make reducing your screen time easier? Because it’s fun. The social aspect keeps you motivated and engaged, and the friendly competition can spur you on to make even more progress. Plus, it's always helpful to have someone who understands the challenges and can offer advice and encouragement.

And no, this is not just a shameless plug to use our app… it actually works, that’s why we built it!
