Podcast Ep. We Love 🍺

What Alcohol Does to Your Body, Brain, and Health” — The Huberman Lab Podcast. The biggest positive health change I’ve made in my life has been curbing my phone addiction. The second biggest has been consciously reexamining my relationship with alcohol. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE alcohol. Probably more than the average person. But the research is now abundantly clear: alcohol is a potent toxin that significantly impacts your health and performance. If you have a WHOOP or Oura Ring, you probably already know this. Even a few drinks have a noticeable impact on your sleep and recovery metrics. And an overdependence on alcohol (which most of us probably have) has wide ranging impacts on our mental, physical, and emotional health. When I started to reexamine and reduce my alcohol consumption, I was able to make dramatic improvements in almost all areas of my life. I had more energy in my workouts, it was easier to control my diet, and I became more focused in my entrepreneurial endeavors. I know this can be a downer for most because alcohol is just so fricken fun! I hear you. I love it, too. I’m a 27 year old guy in NYC - what the heck else am I supposed to do? Unfortunately, I don’t have the perfect answer for you yet. But what I can say is that being mindful about it is the first step. Consciously understanding when, why, and how much you drink - and whether it is serving you well - can go a long way. Additionally, understanding clearly the impact it has on your body also helps you make a more informed decision, hence the Huberman Lab podcast. Admittedly this podcast is long, but Huberman is probably the best in the game at breaking down the research in a digestible way. After listening I guarantee it will at least cause you to question habits that have been ingrained in you since you were 17. Bonus content: “Issue 226: Buzz Kill” — Fitt Insider’s newsletter. This examines the changing trends in alcohol consumption and the explosion of alternatives.

Quote That Has Us Thinking 🧠

“We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training”

Weekend Activity Challenge 💪

  1. Explore your city: go to a new area you haven’t been before (this is what I’ll be doing this weekend)

  2. Start learning that new skill: have you ever wanted to play guitar? The piano? Maybe even the FLUTE?? This is your sign to start now!

  3. Hit the gym: yes, I’m looking at you. I know you haven’t been keeping up with your New Year’s Resolution, and that’s okay. But use this as the time to get back after it!

If you end up doing one of these challenges, send us pictures at contact@geptresentapp.com and you can be featured in a future newsletter!
